FARGO - A Fairmount, N.D., man is accused in Cass County District Court of abandoning a construction project after receiving about $7,000 to do the work.

According to court documents:

Timothy Willis Jacobson, 54, is charged with one felony count of construction fraud and one misdemeanor count of contracting without a license.

The charges allege Jacobson abandoned a construction project after accepting payment of about $7,700.

Court papers say Jacobson entered into a contract around October of last year to do work on buildings on a property in rural Cass County and that Jacobson was paid more than $7,000 in advance.

Shortly afterward, Jacobson informed the client that he had hurt his back in a fall from a roof and wouldn't be able to work for some time.

The client told authorities Jacobson failed to communicate throughout the winter and into the spring of 2018, but eventually the parties came to an agreement that Jacobson would return the payment he had received.

However, that payment was never returned, according to the court documents.

Jacobson did not have an attorney of record as of Friday, Oct. 19.
