CHRISTINE, N.D. - A fire that destroyed an abandoned farmhouse Wednesday night, Oct. 3, just north of here was likely the result of arson.

That’s according to Randy Monson, chief of the Christine Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire was reported about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday about 4 miles north and a mile east of U.S. Highway 81, said Monson, who added that the building was abandoned long ago and had no electrical service that could have caused a fire.

In addition, he said surrounding grass was wet and there was no apparent external cause for the fire.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office has responded to reports of trespassers at the location in the past, according to Monson.

He said nearby buildings were not affected by the fire.
