MOORHEAD - A vacant home near the Concordia College campus is a total loss after it went up in flames late Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Moorhead Fire Department Capt. Eric Berg said no one was injured in the fire at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Fifth Street South.

“It was fully engulfed when we arrived,” he said. “We searched all floors and found nothing.”

The home was completely vacant of people or furniture, according to Berg, who said the home was likely a total loss.

Nearby resident Lily Farrel said she believed the home has been unoccupied since the previous owner passed away earlier this year.

Berg said they haven’t begun to investigate the cause of the fire yet. He and more than a dozen firefighters were still working to put out flames about 10:30 p.m. after receiving a call around 8 p.m.

Moorhead Fire Department crews used chainsaws to break through walls and points on the roof to access hot spots and sources of billowing smoke.

Dozens of neighbors stood as spectators to the blaze.
